The Library

One library, on two sites, with specialisms in spirituality and religious life.

A new library was built in the Priory as part of an extensive programme of refurbishment works carried out in 2019. The collection was then re-catalogued, and this catalogue is accessible online.

In the meantime, also in 2019, Willen Priory closed, and the much larger collection of books there went into storage.

Then, in 2025, as part of the development of the Herbert Kelly Institute for Anglican Religious Life, another new library was built at 72 Claypath, and the books from Willen were brought to Durham.

We hope that our libraries will become a useful resource for students and researchers, as well as guests, visitors, and those who may be taking courses through the Priory or are simply interested in theology, spirituality and religious life.

Using the Library

Please Note

Unfortunately it will not be possible to borrow books until cataloguing and shelving is complete.

This is likely to take several months.

If you would like to enquire about joining the library, please contact the Librarian on:
